Launch of Training Program and Distribution of Paddy Reaper for Farmers in Wonogiri and Ponorogo

Wonogiri, Central Java, February 28, 2025 – PT HM Sampoerna Tbk. (Sampoerna) in collaboration with the National Solidarity Movement (GSN) and the STAPA Center Foundation has implemented a program to strengthen Indonesia's food security. Through the "Sampoerna for Indonesia" Sustainability Program, this initiative is carried out by modernizing harvesting tools as a commitment to supporting national economic progress through the food agriculture sector in Wonogiri, Central Java on Friday (28/2/2025).

Focusing on advancing Indonesian agriculture, this program distributes and provides training on the operation of 120 paddy reapers to 120 farmer groups in Wonogiri Regency, Central Java, and 80 paddy reapers to 80 farmer groups in Ponorogo Regency, East Java on Sunday (2/3/2025). It is estimated that this program will benefit around 2,000 farmers, supported by supplier partners, with a land area of approximately 1,000 hectares.

Paddy reapers are efficient, lightweight, and flexible tools for use in both flat and terraced rice fields. These tools not only save operational costs and significantly reduce working time but also maximize harvest yields.

Sampoerna Director, Elvira Lianita, emphasized the importance of farmers' roles in supporting national food security. She hopes that the paddy reapers and training provided can support the utilization of appropriate technology in agriculture.

"This program is part of the 'Sampoerna for Indonesia' Sustainability Program's commitment to supporting national food security. Through appropriate technology, this program is expected to help farmers achieve efficiency and optimal profits from harvesting activities. Additionally, this program aligns with the government's efforts to increase food self-sufficiency by empowering farmers as the main pillars of Indonesia's agricultural ecosystem," said Elvira.

GSN Chairman, Rosan Roeslani, stated that this assistance aligns with GSN's vision, which includes striving for prosperity and welfare. Its implementation includes efforts to strengthen national food security. "This assistance aims to increase the efficiency and profitability of farming businesses while strengthening food security programs. We hope this initiative can become a model of collaboration with GSN that can be emulated by other parties to improve community income and welfare," said Rosan.

Rosan also emphasized that GSN, declared on November 2, 2024, and fully supported by the President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto, will focus on addressing social issues that must be tackled together with all elements of the nation. "Through cross-sector collaboration and with the support of various parties, GSN is committed to strengthening the social and economic resilience of the community so that prosperity and welfare can be achieved soon," he added.

In his speech, represented by GSN Secretary General, Bobby Gafur Umar, Rosan stated, "With the support of the government, the private sector, and the community, we can create a productive and competitive agricultural environment. The spirit of mutual cooperation is the main foundation in building an independent and prosperous community”.

The program launch event was also witnessed by the Head of the Wonogiri Regency Agriculture Office, Baroto Eko Pujanto, who appreciated the assistance as it facilitated farmers in the harvesting process.

"I thank PT HM Sampoerna Tbk. for providing the paddy reapers," he said.

He mentioned that the harvest period is a very crucial time, so it is hoped that these machines can minimize the obstacles faced by farmers during the harvest.

"Today, the harvesting tools provided by Sampoerna are a blessing for us to speed up the harvesting process so that it can be done simultaneously and handled quickly," he said.

According to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the agricultural sector contributed 12.53% to the national GDP in 2023. This shows the significant role of the agricultural sector in supporting Indonesia's economy. The distribution of agricultural facilities is expected to improve farmers' welfare through the modernization of harvesting tools.

At least 500 farmer representatives and program beneficiaries in Wonogiri Regency, Central Java, attended the launch.

With a commitment to grow and progress together, "Sampoerna for Indonesia" actively plays a role as one of the national economic pillars to support the government in achieving an 8% economic growth target through various sustainable programs. This program also reflects support for the President of the Republic of Indonesia's Asta Cita, particularly in the field of food self-sufficiency, and supports the government's grand vision of realizing a resilient and self-sufficient Indonesia in the food sector.

"We hope this initiative can continue to grow and provide sustainable benefits for farmers, thereby contributing to improving farmers' welfare and strengthening Indonesia's food self-sufficiency," concluded Elvira.
